M. Night Shyamalan Will Create TV Thriller Series For Apple

M. Night Shyamalan is the latest big name to head to Apple. The Sixth Sense filmmaker will produce a straight-to-series thriller for Apple’s new streaming service. In their quest to compete with Netflix, Apple has already signed several big names for new projects.

Apple’s streaming service continues to grow. Variety confirms that M. Night Shyamalan, the twist-ending loving filmmaker behind The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, The Visit and Split, has signed a straight-to-series deal with Apple for a new thriller. There are no plot details yet, but the series will feature 10 half-hour episodes. Shyamalan set to direct the first episode of the series. Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures will produce the series, with Ashwin Rajan, Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black and Steve Tisch serving as executive producers. Beyond the new series, Shyamalan is in the process of editing the highly-anticipated Glass.  The M. Night Shyamalan Apple series won’t be the director’s first foray into TV. Shyamalan also served as executive producer on the Twin Peaks-esque FOX series Wayward Pines. If you were hoping for more Wayward Pines, though, I have some bad news: the show has been cancelled. FOX told TV Line that the series is “unlikely” to return for a third season. Shyamalan was also attached to a Tales From the Crypt reboot for TNT, but that project has since returned to the grave.
