‘Passengers’ Clip & Music Video: Jennifer Lawrence And Chris Pratt Get Flirty

Sony has released a couple new bits of marketing for next month’s other big space movie, Morten Tyldum’s Passengers. The sci-fi romance stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt as two people who wake up 90 years early on an interstellar journey. They kill some time by falling madly in love with one another (because even in the future, human beings are powerless to resist the charms of Jennifer Lawrence or Chris Pratt) before realizing they’re screwed because their spaceship is about to fall apart.
But that disaster comes a bit later, it seems. The new Passengers clip and the new Passengers music video (with music by Imagine Dragons) show the pair in happier times, as they dive headfirst into their whirlwind romance. Click on through to check ’em out.

The latest Passenger clip leans into what’s clearly the biggest draw of the film: the pairing of two of the hottest young stars working today. Jim and Aurora get all dressed up to go on a date at the hottest joint in town, an empty bar manned by Robot Michael Sheen.
The Passengers music video from Imagine Dragons goes even harder with the romance, showing Jim and Aurora flirting, kissing, celebrating birthdays, defying death, jetting off into outer space — you know, normal couple stuff.

More worrying is that it’s not at all clear Lawrence and Pratt have any chemistry. It seems odd that the marketing isn’t playing up their romance more — if your movie is built around the intense sparks between two of the most appealing stars on the planet, why not promote the crap out of that? — and the snippets we have seen aren’t especially inspiring. And if Lawrence and Pratt aren’t really meshing, that’s a big problem since it looks like large swaths of the movie will just be them interacting.
To be sure, Passengers still has a lot going for it. Lawrence and Pratt are very watchable, incredibly bankable stars, and the mere prospect of seeing them together will be enough to get some people to the theater (myself included). Plus, word on the street is Jon Spaihts’ script is pretty great. Hopefully Passengers manages to turn things around in the final few weeks of marketing before it hits theaters December 21.
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
